Resting on a hillcrest in Mt Pleasant, Christchurch, this home follows the natural contours of the land, opening to sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding hills.
Its design is anchored in the landscape, drawing on the site's exposed rock formations and rugged terrain. At the heart of the plan is a sheltered courtyard, held by the architecture and connected to all living spaces. This central outdoor room allows the home to open outwards while still feeling protected, setting up a quiet contrast between the intimacy of the courtyard and the drama of the sea views.
The material palette leans into raw, tactile elements - corten steel, exposed blockwork and charred larch cladding - chose to sit comfortably in the landscape and to weather gracefully over time.
