Site Architecture is led by architect Don Roy and architectural designer Andy McLeod.

With more than 50 years combined experience and multiple TIDA and ADNZ awards, and a recent NZIA Shortlist, we design homes and commercial spaces built on a shared commitment to thoughtful design and practical architecture. When you work with us, you'll experience a clear, open process from first conversation to move-in day.

Our Process

We’ve shaped our design and build process to be clear, collaborative and straightforward. Here’s what to expect when you work with us.

Predesign and Your Brief

We'll meet at your home or site to understand your ideas, goals, budget and timing. You talk; we listen. We explore your ideas, discuss your brief, timings and budget, and walk you through how we work. If you're still choosing a site or shaping your brief, we can help.

Engagement and Site Analysis

Once we're aligned, we confirm scope, feels and next steps in writing. We offer fixed fees at each design stage, so costs are clear. We handle planning rules, surveys, and Geotech reports, so your projects start strong.

Concept Design

Design ideas take shape through sketches, 3D models and options that balance creativity and cost. You'll even get a digital model to explore on your phone.

Developed Design

We refine the concept into a detailed design, integrating sustainability and compliance. Resource consent? We manage it.

Detailed Design and Documentation

We prepare clear, coordinated drawings for consent and construction. We lodge and manage the building consent process and work with consultants as needed.

Interior Design

Kitchens, bathrooms, lighting – every detail is considered. We collaborate seamlessly if you have another designer in mind.

Tender and Builder Selection

We can assist with the tendering and negotiation to ensure the right builder is selected and everything is ready before construction begins.

Construction and Completion

We stay involved, answer questions and manage the build contract if needed. Once complete, we walk through together and check in after you're settled.

Don Roy

Don is an award-winning architect whose career spans leadership roles in respected New Zealand practices as well as his own successful studio. Known for his authentic approachable manner, Don builds strong, trusting relationships with clients, believing architecture should reflect their personalities, priorities and aspirations.

His design process begins with a clear conceptual idea, carried carefully through each stage of development so the original intent remains visible in the finished building. Don thrives on complex sites that challenge convention and invite creative, and sometimes playful, responses.

Influenced by natural materials and a 'less is more' philosophy, Don's work celebrates simplicity, craftsmanship and adaptibility. He is especially passionate about smaller homes - projects rich in detail, flexible in use and deeply connected to their environment.

Don is a registered architect and member of Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA).

Andy McLeod

Andy is an award-winning architectural designer with over 25 years' of experience in architecture and commercial interiors. He believes strong relationships are the foundation of successful projects, fostering open, honest dialogue to ensure every client's vision is realised - and elevated.

Having worked for some of Christchurch's leading architectural practices, Andy brings a diverse portfolio spanning hospitality, commercial and residential design. His work reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship and passion for artistry in the details.

Andy's design approach is guided by materials, light, space and colour. Collaborating closely with project teams, he ensures every stage combines precision and creativity, resulting in spaces that feel functional, timeless and uplifting.

Andy is a professional member of Architectural Designers NZ and a practice member of Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects.
